•• 07.12.13 — Thursday Podcast Roundup ••

thursday-podcast-roundup-mastheadHappy Thursday!! Here are some great podcasts to listen to over the weekend while you’re soaking up the sun, washing the dog, or traveling on the bus. Enjoy!

•• General Interest ••

In a special episode of AIRLINE PILOT GUY, Captain Jeff cuts through all the media hype about the recent crash landing of Asiana Flight 214, and gives you a point-by-point, clear-eyed interpretation of events as they happened. Riveting stuff!

This week’s NATURE podcast looks at how population reduction affects a species (I suspect it’s not good); how plants are adapting to rising carbon dioxide levels (has anybody read The Day of the Triffids?); and how synthesized voices are becoming more ‘human’ (“I can’t let you do that, Dave.”). I love this show — it’s such as great source of spooky ideas for sci-fi horror!

•• Film ••

The guys at ATTACK OF THE KILLER PODCAST (a.k.a. A.K.P.) take on anthology films with special guest Jill Sixx. This episode, they scope out Creepshow 2, ABCs of Death, Trick R’ Treat, and Tales from the Darkside: the Movie!

Oooops! The CADAVER LAB podcast released a new episode on June 30, and I totally missed it — sorry! Anyway, it’s gonna be awesome, as Johnny Krueg and Mike Cadaver grab a cooler and their binoculars for some serious birdwatching. Destination:  Psycho Beach Party 2000!

Gary at CINEMA BEEF PODCAST returns to the regular episode format with special guest Emily Wood (a.k.a. ‘The’ Emily) of Terror Troop podcast! This week, they talk about Paul (2011), starring two of my favourite comic actors, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost; Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the 2005 Brangelina film; and Sexy Beast, the 2000 film starring Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone.

Like A.K.P., HORROR ETC. also takes on anthologies in this week’s From the Hip edition! After a wide-ranging discussion that encompasses Netflix as well as films The Reef, Atrocious, Session 9, and Cloud Atlas, it’s a double shot, as Ted and Tony set their sights on V/H/S 2 and ABCs of Death, and start blasting.

In the latest episode of MOTION PICTURE MASSACRE, Vaughan experiences feedback and then talks about the films Celia: Child of Terror and His Name Was King. (Oh yeah!)

It’s a hat-trick episode at MOVIE PODCAST WEEKLY, as they review The Lone Ranger (2013), Despicable Me 2 (2013), and Monsters University (2013). Special guests include director William Rowan Jr. and Chris Excess of Terror Troop!

Omigosh, there’s a new kid in town, as THE SPEW PODCAST, Episode I, is finally released! With co-hosts Johnny Krueg, The Phantom Erik, Creep Creepersin, and Mike Cadaver, it promises to be legendary. Review to follow…

•• Writing ••

In the latest episode of DEAD ROBOTS’ SOCIETY, the guys talk to Matthew Wayne Selznick, author of Brave Men Run and Pilgrimage, and force him to tell them his future writing plans!

  1. Hi Sean,
This is Jason Pyles, the host of Movie Podcast Weekly. Thank you so much for the shout-out. I just found your site, and I love it! I appreciate what you’re doing here for the podcasting community and its listeners. Thanks again. I’m going to promote your site on our next show, Episode 042.
    Sincerely,
    Jason Pyles
    Movie Podcast Weekly

    • Wow, thanks, Jason!
I started listening to Movie Podcast Weekly last month, and I think it’s awesome. Great conversation, knowledgeable co-hosts, and excellent audio quality — it perfectly incorporates all the hallmarks of a great podcast! I really look forward to your upcoming shows (and back-catalogue) to learn about a wider range of films, since I tend to focus on the horror genre, a tendency that leaves my wife both nonplussed and exasperated. Thank you for the upcoming shout-out on your show, by the way 🙂

    • Hey, Vaughan!
I’m very happy to get the word out about your show, which I never miss. I am also very, very happy that you’re recording shows again, by the way. Keep up the amazing work.

  2. Nice of you to mention my interview with the gents from The Dead Robots’ Society podcast. As always, it was a fun time! I got to talk about revisiting older works, the nature of art and craft, storyworlds, a writer’s responsibility to their community, and, of course, my latest book, “Pilgrimage — A Novel of the Sovereign Era.”

Thanks for the spotlight — I hope folks enjoy the episode.

    • Hi Matthew,
Thanks for the feedback! If you do any other podcast interviews (or anything audio-related for that matter) in the future, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to promote your work here 🙂

      • Thanks! I’m recording an episode of Get Published on Monday the 15th — I’ll be sure to let you know when it posts. I’m also very actively pursuing other promotional opportunities in support of my latest book and my new serial fiction-by-subscription project, so you might be hearing from me a lot this summer! 🙂
